According to locals, this handprint is the mark of a giant. The story goes that, after catching a huge fish offshore, the giant had to use all his strength to pull it ashore. He held the fishing rod with one hand and used the other to brace himself against the rock for leverage. The immense force caused the handprint to be deeply embedded in the rock, creating the strange mark that tourists can still see today.

Another story tells of a giant who, while watching nymphs frolic in the sea, accidentally slipped. As he fell, he quickly grabbed onto a cliff to regain his balance. His grip was so strong that it left deep handprints on the rock before part of it crumbled into the sea.
