Developing resettlement housing – Building multi-purpose urban areas

Hanoi is entering a new phase of development, requiring the expansion of urban space, the implementation of many key infrastructure projects, the renovation of old apartment buildings, urban beautification, and the construction of public works to serve socio-economic development.

In this context, the city is researching and implementing a multi-purpose urban area model with the expectation of creating new development spaces while simultaneously addressing various issues related to housing, resettlement, and social welfare.

Notably, in the development plan for multi-purpose urban areas, approximately 40-50% of the planned housing stock is allocated for resettlement and social welfare purposes. This is considered a new approach by Hanoi to proactively create a large-scale housing fund to serve land clearance and the implementation of key projects, while ensuring better living conditions for people after relocation.

The program will feature architect Tran Huy Anh, Standing Committee member of the Hanoi Architects Association, and Dr. Nguyen Quang, former Director of the UN-Habitat Vietnam Program.

The program will focus on analyzing the role of multi-purpose urban areas in the capital’s development strategy; the requirements for land clearance; the preparation of resettlement housing funds while ensuring livelihoods for residents; and solutions to form new growth poles, contributing to expanding Hanoi’s development space.

The guests will discuss the necessary conditions for multi-purpose urban areas to not only meet housing needs but also ensure employment opportunities, livelihoods, and a long-term quality of life for people after resettlement.

Through this program, many issues will be clarified, thereby contributing to suggesting directions for expanding development space, creating new growth poles, and building a more civilized and modern capital city.
